Pokud by náhodou někoho zajímala ta prezentace o Novým Zélandu a text, tak vám to sem dám. Ale upozorňuju je to v angličtině, ale třeba to nějaký angličtinář upotřebí do školy :-). Je to takový souhrn toho nejdůležitějšího, podle mě.






Basic informations:
New Zealand or Aotearoa in native Maori language (which means "The land of the long white cloud") is an island country in the south-western Pacific Ocean.
Capital city: Wellington, which is situated on the North Island
Currency: New Zealand dollar
National symbols: flightless bird Kiwi and the Koru. Koru is a spiral shape based on the shape of
a new unfurling a silver fern frond.
Its symbolizing new life, growth, strenght and peace. It´s an integral symbol in Maori art carving and tattoos. The Koru is used for example as the logo of Air New Zealand, or we can find silver fern on the flag of the rugby team.
National colour: black

Geography:
New Zealand consists of two main islands and number of smaller islands. The North and South Islands are separated by Cook Strait.
The South Island is the largest land mass of New Zealand, and is divided along its length by the Southern Alps. In the mountains of the South Island the highest peak is Mt. Cook. The south-western corner of South Island is Fiordland, an area of high mountains cut through with steep fjords.
The North Island is less mountainous but is marked by volcanism. The highest peak on this island is Mt. Ruapehu. There is also the largest lake of the NT, the Taupo. The island's north is a flatter area, once covered by huge kauri trees.

Fauna and Flora:
- New Zealand was for a long time in the isolation from the rest of the world
- There are some unique types of flora and fauna
- Fauna - the flightless bird Kiwi, the spider Katipo, the flightless owl parrot

History:
- The Polynesian Maori reached New Zealand in about 800 AD.
- 1642 - New Zealand was discovered by Abel Tasman
- 1769 - Captain James Cook mapped the two main islands and discovered the passage between the two islands - Cook Strait - named after him.
- 1840 -
with the assistance of missionaries, the Maori agreed to accept British sovereignty over the islands through the Treaty of Waitangi
- 1867 - four seats in the NZ House of Representatives were specifically set aside for Maori members of parlament to represent their own race
- 1907 - the British colony of New Zealand became a dominion
- 1947 - independence was formally accepted

Political system:
NZ is an independent member of the Commonwealth. The reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, is represented by a Governor General. The head of the government is the Prime Minister. The political system is democratic and was modelled on that of Britain

Sport:
The unofficial sport -> Rugby. Sport is known in New Zealand from year 1870. The national team is "All Blacks" (one of the best rugby team in the world).

Haka:
Traditional dance form of the Maori. Haka is performed for various reasons:

War haka was originally performed by warriors before battle proclaiming their strength and prowess.

Cities:
Auckland
- is in the North Island of New Zealand, is the largest and most populous urban area in the country. Auckland straddles the Auckland Volcanic Field, which has produced 56 volcanoes. These take the form of cones, lakes, lagoons, islands and depressions, and several have produced extensive lava flows.

Wellington
- is the capital city and third most populous urban area of New Zealand. Wellington is New Zealand's political centre, housing Parliament, the head offices of all Government Ministries and Departments

Queenstown
- in South Island
- Queenstown is a centre for adventure tourism. Skiing, jet boating, whitewater rafting, bungy jumping, mountain biking, skateboarding, tramping and fly fishing are all strong promotional themes. Queenstown is a major centre for snow sports in New Zealand

Tourist Attractions:
Waitomo Glowworm Cave
- is a cave on the North Island of New Zealand, known for its population of glowworms. These glowworms are found exclusively in New Zealand
- This cave is part of the Waitomo Caves.
- The walls of the caves are covered with a variety of fungi including the cave flower.
- There are also other types of animals like albino cave ants or giant crickets

Rotorua
- it is unique for volcanic landscape, living Maori culture, natural hot springs and plenty of options for adventure, Rotorua is one of New Zealand's most famous destinations.
Rotorua is also home to botanical gardens and historic architecture.

Te Anau
- Lake Te Anau is the largest lake in the South Island and second only within New Zealand to Lake Taupo.

National parks:
New Zealand has 14 NP.
Abel Tasman National Park
Named for explorer Abel Tasman, this national park is New Zealand's smallest. The park consists of forested, hilly country to the north of the valleys of the Takaka and Riwaka Rivers, and is bounded to the north by the waters of Golden Bay and Tasman Bay.

Tongariro National Park
Tongariro National Park is the oldest national park in New Zealand, located in the central North Island. It has been acknowledged by UNESCO.
Tongariro National Park was the fourth national park established in the world. The active volcanic mountains Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Tongariro are located in the centre of the park.

Fiordland National Park
It is the largest of the 14 national parks in New Zealand.
The seaward edge of Fiordland National Park is a series of fourteen massive cuts, carved by the glaciers during successive ice ages. There are also snow-capped peaks and forests, where we can find trees that are more than 800 years old.

Hongi
- is the traditional Maori greeting. It is done by pressing one's nose to another person at an encounter.
